Description

IC 2944, also known as the Running Chicken Nebula, or the Lambda Centauri Nebula is an open cluster with an associated emission nebula found in the constellation Centaurus, near the star Lambda Centauri.  It features Bok globules, which are frequently a site of active star formation. However, no evidence for star formation has been found in any of the globules in IC 2944.

For me the globules are the star attraction. They were discovered in by astronomer A. David Thackeray in 1950 and are now known as Thackeray's Globules

The first night was pretty ordinary but last night the seeing maxed out so from a total of 8 hours of exposures I discarded over 50% and ended with the best 4 hours for this.

Going down a well trodden road here. I mosaiced it a few years ago but that was a lot of work.

It is a very nice field and worthy of a wider field scope.
